How to get your content to reach more people with SEO keywords

content social media reach

You’ve begun creating content for social media but can’t seem to get it to reach people on the platforms you use. Search engine optimization or SEO is important to get your website in front of potential clients and customers when it comes to social media, specifically Instagram, hashtags are just as important.

How to choose your keywords aka hashtags

When thinking of keywords for your content, there a few steps you should always follow to ensure you reach the right people for your business. An important first step is to ask yourself who your ideal customer or client is. Once you’ve got a vague idea of your ideal customer, look at the product your selling and think about how your ideal client would likely buy the product or service.

Now that you have an idea of your ideal customer and what you are selling out of the way think about what they would search to find your product or services. An example of this can be a potential customer wanting a logo redesign but searching for graphic design instead.

If you find you can’t get to the 30 hashtag limit on Instagram, a great tool to use is a hashtag generator. You simply put in the words you have already come up with from the above questions, and it will spit out related keywords that will put your content out to even more people and potential customers. I often use Sistrix’s Instagram generator as it’s free, easy to use, and gives out great hashtags every time. You can check it out here.

Why use hashtags?

When you post an image on Instagram, it gets put into the algorithm and is fed to your followers as well as the explore page, if your account is public. If you add a location to the image, it will also show up in the feed for that specific location. That’s it. If you want to reach more people that are interested in what you are posting, hashtags are the way to go as they act as keywords that describes the content within the post.

Hashtags allow your posts to be displayed in more feeds dedicated to a specific topic with your target audience. For example, if you use #webdeveloper, your post will be displayed in the web developer feed. An easy way to get your post out to people that want to see it and are more likely to follow you.
